Which wallbox to choose

Comparators rank stations by price and power. However, several factors not shown in the table matter: what your car supports, what your property can handle, and what the offer should include.

Power: 11 kW is sufficient in almost all cases

The station does not charge more energy, only faster. A car parked overnight will be charged from an almost empty battery at 11 kW. Twenty-two kilowatts makes sense in two situations: when the battery must be recharged between two trips within one or two hours, and for company parking spaces with high turnover.

Caution regarding the on-board charger. Some vehicles can accept a maximum of 11 kW, others only 7.4 kW. A more powerful station will not charge them faster; it will simply cost more and unnecessarily load the connection.

Cable or socket

A fixed cable means you arrive and connect it; nothing to carry. A socket on the station makes sense when different cars with different connectors are used there or when you want to keep the cable stored in the car. At more publicly accessible locations, a socket is often more durable because a hanging cable is easier to damage.

What extra features the station offers and when they pay off

You may replace the charging station in five years. The cable route, supply dimensions and space in the distribution board will remain. Therefore, it pays not to skimp on preparation and, if possible, dimension it for a higher output even if a lower-power station is installed now.

What must be included in the quotation

An offer showing only the station price and a flat installation fee cannot be compared to any other. Missing items usually do not disappear; they simply appear later.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 11 and 22 kW?

Only charging speed matters, not the amount of energy. 11 kW draws around 16 A per phase, 22 kW around 32 A. For a car parked overnight, 11 kW is sufficient and places less load on the building's supply connection. 22 kW makes sense only when charging between two trips, and additionally, the vehicle's onboard charger must be capable of accepting it.

Fixed cable or socket at the charging station?

A fixed cable is more convenient as it does not need to be carried or connected at two locations. A socket is more practical where different vehicles are used in rotation or where you wish to keep the cable stored away. For outdoor stations in publicly accessible areas, a socket is often safer in terms of preventing damage.

Do I need a charging station with an app?

No, not for charging alone. The app makes sense if you want to charge in a cheaper tariff band, monitor consumption per charging session, or charge from photovoltaic surplus. For businesses, tracking consumption by user is practically essential; for homes, it's a convenience.

How do I recognise a good wallbox offer?

It must include power and number of phases, connector type, RCD and fuse types, cable route length and installation method, the utility network statement application, and the initial inspection. A quote containing only the station price and installation cannot be compared with any other, as missing items usually appear later.
