Charging

You can buy a wallbox anywhere. Connecting it is the real work

The e-shop will also sell you the station. What it does not include is the distributor's consent, assessment of the main fuse, cable route and inspection report. We handle all this, from the initial site visit to handover with documentation.

Electric vehicle charging from a wallbox at the garage of a detached house

What we handle

One wallbox at a house and twenty charging points at a company car park are two different jobs. They differ mainly in what needs to be arranged before any drilling can begin.

Charging station at a parking space in a covered garage

Detached house and garage

  • 11 or 22 kW depending on the vehicle and circuit breaker
  • Application for connection to the distributor
  • Power management to prevent circuit breakers from tripping

Companies and car parks

  • Mandatory charging points for non-residential buildings
  • More charging points on a single connection
  • User consumption records

Connection and inspection

  • Assessment of circuit breaker and reserved power capacity
  • Electric meter replacement and tariff
  • Inspection report and handover documentation

What cannot be purchased at the charging station

Comparators compare performance, connector type and price. Other factors determine whether installation is feasible at your location and when it can be carried out.

Documents that must be processed

  • Application for connection with the distributor, usually for single-family homes due to an increase in reserved power.
  • Possible tariff change to enable charging during cheaper rate periods.
  • Inspection report from a certified inspector; without it, the insurance company will dispute claims in the event of damage.
  • For apartment buildings, consent from the owners' assembly and an agreement on who pays for the electricity consumed are required.

Technology that determines the price

  • Distance from the distribution board and whether the route can be run on the surface or requires cutting and digging.
  • The capacity of the main circuit breaker and what is running simultaneously in the house.
  • Number of phases: single-phase installation charges more slowly but is often sufficient.
  • Protective device and circuit protection according to standard; for wallboxes the requirement is stricter than for a standard socket.

Charging from a standard socket using a so-called emergency cable is not a solution for daily use. The socket and its wiring are not designed for several hours of draw near the rated current, and this is a recurring cause of overheating.

What affects the price

The catalogue price of the station is only part of the cost. This determines the rest:

Location

  • The route length from the distribution board to the station and the method of cable routing.
  • Wall penetrations, skirting boards, digging in the garden or routing cables through multiple garage floors.
  • Condition of the distribution board and availability of space for fuses and RCDs.
  • Outdoor or indoor installation and the need for a stand instead of a wall.

Wiring

  • Station output and number of phases, possible reinforcement of the main circuit breaker.
  • Dynamic power management and household consumption monitoring.
  • Connection to photovoltaics and charging from surplus energy.
  • The number of stations and whether they are to share a single connection.

You will receive an itemised quotation specifying what is included and excluded in the price, along with an estimate of items dependent on the distributor. No additional charges calculated on-site.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does wallbox installation cost?

The price depends on the cable run length from the distribution board, whether the cable can be routed surface-mounted or requires chasing, the condition and capacity of the main circuit breaker, the number of phases and the type of station. Therefore, we provide a quote only after an inspection, which is free and non-binding. For smaller installations, the wallbox itself is often the cheaper part of the total cost.

Do I need the distributor's consent?

For a standard wallbox at a detached house, yes, because the reserved power is increased or the nature of consumption changes. The connection application is submitted to ČEZ Distribuce, EG.D or PREdistribuce depending on location. We handle it for you; this is the part that cannot be purchased in the e-shop.

Will my circuit breaker handle it?

An 11 kW wallbox draws approximately 16 A per phase, while a 22 kW unit draws around 32 A. If the building's main circuit breaker is rated at 3×25 A and a boiler, induction hob, and heat pump are running simultaneously, it may trip. This is resolved either by upgrading the circuit breaker or by using dynamic power management, which automatically reduces charging power based on the rest of the building's load. This can only be determined from utility bills and an on-site inspection, not from product catalogues.

How long does the whole process take?

The installation itself at a detached house usually takes half a day to a day. What extends the timeline is obtaining the distributor's consent and any potential replacement of the circuit breaker or electricity meter, where you must wait for the distribution company. Plan for weeks rather than days and start with this step, not with the installation.

Is it worthwhile to connect a wallbox to a photovoltaic system?

Yes, if you have surpluses. The station can charge only from what the roof is currently producing, so the car charges during the day and the rest of the grid is not loaded. This requires a station capable of this and connection to the inverter. It is good to state this in advance, as it affects equipment selection.
